The session begins with a preparation period whereby impressions of the teeth are taken and the teeth are polished to remove any surface film and/or debris that may hinder the whitening process.  The lips and gums are then isolated leaving only the teeth exposed.

The whitening gel is applied to the teeth and is then activated by the whitening light.  The light activated whitening gel’s active ingredient is concentrated hydrogen peroxide.  As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, whitening colored substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged.  Together the light and gel work to gently eliminate stains and discoloration.  The gel is then removed and the teeth are polished once again.

During this time, our office team will fabricate custom take-home whitening trays to allow future maintenance of the whitening at home.
